Hi folks,
Sorry for not engaging more on this page. I’ve been super busy. As many of you know, I’m a bit of a Luddite when it comes to technology. I’m getting there though. You can teach an old dog new tricks…as long as you do it very slowly! Ha ha!
So, let me update you.
I’ve been to lots of schools and book sales are great and the feedback has been absolutely wonderful and I am so grateful, and happy about that. But most people don’t give reviews on Amazon. Like me everyone is really busy and things slip your mind….like updating your social media
Let me tell you why reviews are so important.
Authors rely on reviews and word of mouth to sell their books. Buying a book is actually a big deal. If you are looking online you can only see one or two pages before deciding if it’s the book you are looking for. A book is not something you return because it doesn’t fit and they are quite expensive to buy on a whim. So buyers do read reviews good and bad to help make their decision. Now funnily enough people who are not happy with a book they have bought are more likely to write a review than those who like it. Authors therefore know they will at some point get a couple of less than wonderful reviews. That‘s not a problem, you can’t please all of the people all of the time, authors know this, we are consumers too.
However, there is a phenomena whereby trolls, competitors, and people who you might have had a difference of opinion with, post bad reviews. It’s something of a growing trend unfortunately.
I have had my own experience with this too. I know who it was and she is actually a teacher I challenged about shouting at children. I wouldn’t mind her comments if she had actually read the books. If you see some 1 star reviews and the majority of the other reviews are 3,4 and 5, it might tell you more about the reviewer than the book. Just something to bear in mind.
So if you enjoy a book, (not just mine) I know other authors would love it if you popped a quick review (even if it’s just the stars) onto Amazon or other site you bought from.
It thwarts the nasty little trolls et al.
